The city of Taxco is one of the most colourful places of colonial Mexico.
When visitors come to this city for the first time, it surprises them its singular appearance, nailed in the skirts of the
Atachi hill, crossed by a series of gorges and surrounded by great mountains. The majestic beauty of Santa Prisca, pride of
the people from Taxco and one of the most excellent temples of America, contrasts with the simplicity of its houses of white
walls and red roofs. Its name comes from the pre-Hispanic town Tlachco, which means "place of the ball game".
The
exploration of their rich veins turned Taxco into one of the most important mining centres of the New Spain.
The city of Taxco de Alarcón has conserved
its colonial aspect. Its worthy to emphasize its old constructions and the peculiar urban plan with its twisted spotted streets
and without sidewalks. The visitor can appreciate beautiful and colourful corners, along with the numerous terraces with flowerpots
of multicolour flowers. In 1990 this city was declared national historical monument.
